Why there wasn't a 2003 Mr/Ms Santa Clara County Leather contest

SCCLA had been organizing the leather weekend with the expectation that it would only include a contest if there was at least one contestant registered by the deadline (one week before the Leather weekend). Had there been at least one contestant, we would have held the deadline open to the Friday of Leather weekend.

Our entry deadline passed with no contestants entered.

After our deadline, an individual did express interest. Unfortunately we could not accommodate the late entry. The deadline left the barest margin for organizers to coordinate a show and contest.

In the words of Jason Campbell, Mr SCCLeather 2002:

"...putting on a quality contest takes considerable work and preparation. Anything less is disrespectful to the tradition of the title, past titleholders, and current contestants. Meanwhile, putting together the entire contest staff only to have no contestants is disrespectful to those volunteers."
